The Cherub app is a great app for moms to connect with other moms, and find their people and new friends that will help them through their motherhood journey.
It also provides access to a community which is there to listen and share, while they are navigating through any stage of motherhood.
The app is a social discovery app just for women, where friend-finding is made safe, easy and fun.
Mothers can share their experiences, explore groups and communities, meet women nearby, stay connected, find support, ask questions and get advice.
Mothers can register themselves, and add information such as — interests, city, occupation, relevant information about their children, and status. According to the information on their profile, they can find other moms with matching characteristics in the app, and send them a connection request. The app matches them with similar women, and users swipe for moms they’re interested in connecting with. They can chat and arrange meet-ups in real life.
They can host Events and invite mothers. They can also create a Forum (Public or Private) and have discussions with other users.
Key Features
- Share: Ask questions, search advice and share stories across meaningful topics. Mothers can quickly find what they are looking for.
- Meet: Discover women nearby who are at a similar stage in life. Moms can add an Event and share information about the event. Other moms can show their interest for an event by selecting any of the following options: Attending, Interested, Not Attending. They can also share that event for better reach. This event is also shareable in a Forum.
- Groups: Join groups and find communities with common interests. Moms can create public as well as private forums. They can participate in Forums and post there. They can add comments and reply to comments on posts, and can also add pictures. They can look for and search in a Forum, according to topics and interests.
- We used Firebase to implement the chat functionality.
- The app has a highly flexible, responsive, and efficient user interface (UI).
Challenges
- Adding a feature like the Tinder-style left and right swipe, in order to connect mothers.
- Implementing a 6-tab bar at the bottom in the app, to manage the complex navigation between screens.
Solution
- We used third-party KolodaView to implement the left and right-swipe feature that mothers can use to make new connections, and customized it to match our design view.
- Apple provides a 5-tab bar at the bottom in an app, by default. We handled complex navigation between views, and implemented the 6-tab bar to give users a much smoother experience.
